Yuccaols

Yuccaols are defined as – phenols derived from the yucca plant. Yuccaols are known for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and may inhibit the growth of Kaposi Sarcoma cancer cells. As newly discovered phenols, they are not well known due to, they rarely occur in the plant kingdom. Yuccaol phenols are closely related to resveratrol. Due to the health benefits yuccaols provide, ground yucca powder is being used in commercial and consumer products including natural bath and body products.

Kaposi Sarcoma is defined as – cancer cells that can grow on the skin, mouth, lungs, or digestive tract.     

Yuccaols providing anti-tumor activity, from yucca glauca, against melanoma have also been studied. Melanoma is defined as – a malignant tumor connected with skin cancer.

Scientific Studies

A study to determine the effect of Yuccaols and Resveratrol found yuccaols were more effective than resveratrol in slowing Kaposi Sarcoma cell growth. The results of this study demonstrated the anti-inflammatory properties of yucca (from both resveratrol and yuccaols) providing evidence of anti-tumor and anti-invasive properties of these phenolic compounds. Other studies have validated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of this phenol.

Resveratrol reduces free radicals in the body and slows cell mutation. This is why red wine and yucca products containing resveratrol are studied for their anticarcinogenic properties.

Platelets are what forms clots to stop bleeding. Free radicals destroy other molecules. The phenol – yuccaol, inhibits the production of free radicals in blood platelets.

It has been recognized that yucca contains two specific polyphenols – Resveratrol and Yuccaols. The combination of these two compounds, are found exclusively in yucca powder.
